The Footprints of Hope Project is a program organized by the Veterans for Wildlife. It is in South Africa, corroborating with Care for Wild. The project was developed to help war veterans who are suffering from PTSD cope with day to day life by caring for endangered rhinos.
The Rhinos who are currently endangered, live within the sanctuaries of the Care for Wild. It is the largest orphan Rhino refuge in the world. In the project (Footprints of Hope), both veterans and Rhinos live mutually. The veterans’ traumas are healed by living with the therapy Rhinos, and the Rhinos are protected and cared for by the veterans.
“The main goal of the project is to give them coping mechanisms so that when they go back to the U.K., they can use these coping mechanisms in their day to day lives to deal with their struggles.” – Wes Thomson, CEO, and Founder of Veterans for Wildlife.
