Moose is an 8-year-old therapy dog for Virginia Tech’s Cook Counseling Center. Since his start of service from 2014, he has aided over 500 outreach events and more than 7,500 counseling sessions. During Virginia Tech’s virtual commencement last May 15, Friday, he was given the Honorary Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

Last year, Moose was also named the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association’s Animal Hero for his service. Moose is one of the four dogs in Virginia Tech’s counseling center. All of them serve as working therapy animals and ambassadors for mental health awareness. Moose was diagnosed with prostate cancer last February and has received treatment ever since. Now, he has returned to work along with his colleagues Carson, Wagner, and his brother Derek.
