Many pet owners have been struggling to provide the needs of their furry friends during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kern County Animal Services, an animal shelter in Bakersfield, California, has offered free dog and cat food assistance through its program.

Pet parents can receive the assistance by simply sending a text message with a code to a phone number. They will receive an application and wait for confirmation. The KCA will then schedule the food pick-up. The assistance program covers only up to 4 animals and that pet owners should demonstrate a real financial need for the assistance.
