The parliament in Wallonia has recently approved a decree which authorizes service dogs to be in public places such as train stations, care establishments, or even public squares. Wallonia also welcomes a new identification system.

Citizens who have service dogs are now obligated to secure a “Service Dog Passport” to certify the legality of their ownership and their dog’s job. As of now, 9 official service dog training associations are certified and tasked to issue this new passport.

While this new decree has made the lives of those in need of a service dog easier, the public allowance for training service animals has also been raised. From €3,000 for assistance dogs and €5,000 for guide dogs, the allowance now amounts to €7,500 per animal.
