A Safe Haven For Pets Affected By Family Violence

Julie Chapman has experienced being in an abusive relationship in the past and she also happens to love animals. Now, she’s currently building a shelter that will help women who are in abusive situations be able to escape and provide a safe place for their pets.

According to Chapman, “There are a lot of different things going on which prevent women from leaving domestic violence and not wanting to leave their animals behind is one of them.”

Chapman’s efforts resulted from the survey which revealed that over 50% of people who were interviewed refuse to leave their partner because they are afraid to leave their beloved pets behind.

Currently, over $28,000 has been donated to create the shelter. To learn more, visit https://www.petrefuge.org.nz/.
