Question: What is the purpose of a therapy animal?

Answer: A Therapy Animal is brought to a location for a visit to help people cope with emotional challenges by providing comfort or therapeutic emotional relief by its presence.

Examples include visiting a school after a school shooting incident to help students cope with their fears and emotions, or visiting a hospital to help alleviate the depression caused by pain or illness.

The Service Animal Registry of California invites you to have your assistance animal registered in order to designate its status. We also encourage you to take our online classes so you can be fully aware of your rights and gain more knowledge about your support animal.
