Paula Bavill, a nurse, purchased Pongo two years ago without realizing that he would end up providing emotional support for her. Pongo is her pet skunk. Bavill suffers from mental health issues and because of that, she’s unable to attend gatherings and events.
According to Bavill, Pongo has the ability to relax her mind and help her focus better. Before Bavill came, she would easily get overwhelmed with loud noises when going out in public. As someone who owns ferrets, she says that she wants something different from a typical cat or dog for an emotional support animal.
A charity spokesman from a mental health foundation acknowledges the importance of pets in motivating, calming people, and making sure that they get to exercise.
