North is a one-year-old Golden Retriever who proudly wears his yellow cape at the Memphis Zoo. He received early training from Canine Companions for Independence at the Hardeman County Correctional Facility under the puppy raising program.
To turn him into a more trustworthy and expertly trained assistance dog, his training for socialization must go further under Memphis Zoo Animal Curator Courtney Janney. Among this socialization training is basic obedience instruction with 30 commands.
The zoo will be the perfect training place for North because he will have the opportunity to walk amidst busy roads while socializing with strangers. His presence will also help in acclimating zoo animals to the sight of assistance dogs.
