Sgt. Benjamin Rexrode works at the University of Virginia’s Police Department and for a very long time, he had wanted to get a therapy dog. He and his wife thought that it would be a good idea for their kids. Also, Ben wanted to be able to bring the dog to UVA.

Finally, he purchased and properly trained a therapy dog which he named Cooper. Cooper is a miniature American shepherd who’s highly motivated by hotdogs, chicken, and cheese! He received 40 hours of in-service training at Positive Paws. To hone his obedient skills, he went out with other certified therapy dogs to schools, hospitals, and other settings.

Ben says that Cooper will also assist the police by helping reduce stress and anxiety in crime victims. For police officers, Cooper will be their mascot!
