Owensboro Innovation Middle School uses dogs as part of their program in teaching children how to read fluently and learn public speaking skills. One of the pups in the program is Charlie Sue, a Doberman Pinscher. Charlie is also one of the dogs that received an extra certification which allows her to help students under the Reading Education Assistance Dog (READ) program.

While Charlie works on Fridays, she can be seen wagging her tail and comforting the students making the reading experience more fun. “They are just there to listen, and it’s been proven to show that when there is a dog involved, the kids feel more comfortable and thrive,” said Meggan Clark, Charlie’s owner, trainer, and SPED teacher at iMiddle.
