Camp Pendleton in California has an agility course for canines to prepare them for military service.
Master Sgt. Brian Burgess, OIC for the Provost Marshall’s Office at the kennels, says the course works on the dog’s stamina and precision. Dogs are trained daily on obstacles that are typical in the environment they serve at the Military Working Dog Platoon War Dog kennel.
One of the students, Sampson, a 2-year old Belgian Malinois of Lance Cpl. Hunter O’Brien is among the 54 Military Working Dogs in Camp Pendleton. He and 10 other dogs will serve as part of the Provost Marshall’s Office, while the 43 will serve with the Law Enforcement Battalion.
To date, about 280 military dogs are serving in the Marine Corps and about 2,300 military-wide. Recently, military working dogs are being given tribute and honor for they provide.
