Fraudulent Service Dog Owners Will Be Fined

fine for fraud service dog owners

Using a fake service dog would result in a hefty fine according to the proposed House Bill 3905 of Springfield. The bill would require any handler to have their dog trained professionally if it were to wear any indication that the dog is a service animal. A second offense of service animal misrepresentation would include hundreds of dollars in fines.

State Rep. La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, told the House Judiciary Criminal Committee, “When you have a misrepresentation of a dog that is represented as a service dog, that’s a public nuisance and could cause harm to the public,” Meanwhile, the Transportation Department proposes a crackdown on fraudulent dog owners who misrepresent their pet as service of emotional support animals just to get on flight.
