Question: Does an emotional support animal need specific training?

Answer: Unlike a Service Animal, an Emotional Support Animal does not need any specific training. The animal does not need to perform any tasks. It is the animal’s mere presence that provides the therapeutic benefit for its disabled owner/handler.

The Service Animal Registry of California invites you to have your assistance animal registered in order to designate its status. We also encourage you to take our online classes so you can be fully aware of your rights and gain more knowledge about your support animal.
