A lot of people have pets. Most are considered as members of the family, but some do more than usual.

Many people confuse emotional support animals with service animals.

Canines for Change is a non-profit organization that trains service dogs for people with disabilities, and Executive Director Nikki Brown says service animals can give emotional support, but they’re also trained with life-saving skills.

Emotional support animals, however, are not required to be trained, but they do provide comfort for people who have emotional issues, according to Psychologist Reema Beri.

While service dogs are allowed anywhere as stated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), emotional support animals do not have the same access as they are not considered as service animals.

It is highly encouraged to call the establishment first to be sure if your emotional support animal is allowed to tag along.
