Students who are far from home can feel lonely. Making new friends can be tough for some. But at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, students are allowed to bring their furry friends. The university has recently built a new pet-friendly floor at Edinboro’s Lawrence Towers. Students who cannot care for pets but still want to be near them can make a request to live on that floor.
Among the new occupants are Elaina Krafick and her 5-year-old Shih Tzu mix named Loki. Krafick is a senior journalism major who decided to bring Loki since she lives alone and likes to have someone to talk to. She says that Loki provides her with a lot of comfort.
Stacie Wolbert, the university’s associate vice president for student affairs, mentions that a nearby dog park is currently being constructed. This dog park welcomes not just pets from the dorm, but also service dogs and emotional support animals who live in the university.
