Dogs Make a Positive Impact on Dementia Patients

dogs at nursing home

Belgian Shepherds and Border Collies have visited Jasmin Nursing Home in Msida to get petted by Dementia patients. The patients were more than delighted to have these furry animals and would even ask when the dogs will be back. Jasmin Nursing Home and K9-Urban Search and Rescue Malta (USAR) joined forces to have this therapy become a reality.

Joe Spiteri from K9-USAR shares that there was even one patient who started speaking after three months of not uttering a word. One can realize the huge impact that dogs bring. According to Reuben Vella Bray, general manager of the nursing home, their objective for using the therapy is to provide more motivation and less medication to the Dementia patients.
