Dogs don’t always behave at their best even with years of extensive training. There are times when they don’t follow your commands or do exactly the opposite of what you tell them to do. Not all types of training are effective to tame every kind of domestic canine. And certainly, a dog’s behavior problems don’t determine the best training method for them.
We all know what operant conditioning is and sometimes it doesn’t work. Cognitive behavior therapy is different and it works on dogs who cannot be trained through operant conditioning. In this discipline, we try to understand why dogs do things we don’t like despite being taught about these no-nos. It all boils down to a dog’s mindset and that is what cognitive behavior therapy targets to train a dog new tricks.
