It’s no secret that pets help boost our mood and reduce our stress and anxiety. But are you doing the same for your furry friend? Animals also need to feel loved and secured. When their emotional needs are met, they can feel happiness and function well physically.
Dr. Cynthia Maro shared an experience of hers where a man consulted with her about his 4-year-old Doberman (named Magnum) that suffered from demodectic mites. After months of treatment, Magnum had little improvement. Dr. Maro then learned that there was a lot of stress in Magnum’s home. This probably weakened his immune function.
She shares some of these tips to promote emotional wellness in pets:
- Offer physical play time to keep pets from getting into trouble.
- Pets with anxiety should be given a good diet and supplements that help with anxiety.
- Help your pets fulfill their purpose. For example, if you have a working dog, make sure to give it a lot of physical stimulation.
