A bill is currently in the Senate which would give the Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) millions of dollars. The Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers Bill or PAWS Bill will help the VA connect veterans who suffer from PTSD with animals.
Previously, the VA only provided funding for service dogs to veterans who have been disabled on the line of duty. Not much was done for the service members with PTSD because the VA didn’t acknowledge the benefits of emotional support animals in treating PTSD.
The bill has earned massive approval from animal rights activists, especially for disabled veteran advocates. This is all thanks to Congresswoman Deb Fischer of Nebraska for bringing the legislation to the floor.
