Question: What is the benefit if a service dog wears identifying gear?

Answer: While identifying gear is not legally required, a service animal owner may desire it to short-cut conversations in public places. For instance, if a dog wears a shirt that reads, “Medical Alert Service Animal,” its handler may be able to avoid having to explain the animal’s status.
