Max the English Springer Spaniel has been awarded the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) Order of Merit after providing virtual therapy to thousands of people during the pandemic. The honor is said to be equal to the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) award.

PDSA director general Jan McLoughlin said, “He has become a true ambassador for the positive impact that animals have on mental health and wellbeing, which is more important now than ever.” Max is also the first animal to receive the award.

One of Max’s highlights of heroism was giving his owner a reason to live after experiencing a disabling road accident and severe depression.
