Boy with Autism Gets to Keep His Emotional Support Ducks After Dispute

Dylan Dyke is a 13-year-old boy diagnosed with autism. He has two ducks named Nibbles and Bill. They’re more than just pets to Dylan — they provide emotional support. Whenever Dylan finds his environment too chaotic and loud, he’ll stay in his room with the Ducks. He’s also able to carry a conversation with them, which he cannot do with other people.

Recently, the neighbors complained about the ducks and the township ordered the removal of these ducks. The neighbors didn’t like the fact that the ducks were wandering in their yard. One of the ducks chased a neighbor’s husband who had his own disabilities. Eventually, a resolution was reached and Dylan’s family were asked to construct a new coop for the ducks. The approved guidelines stated that no more than two ducks will be kept by the family and that the ducks will be allowed outside the coop only for the purpose of interacting with the family.
