A Book for the Benefits of Canine Companionship Among College Students

There is a growing mental health crisis among colleges and universities around the world. Most of it is attributed to the stress of studying and the loneliness students experience on a daily basis. Mary Renck Jalongo, Ph.D., a professor emerita from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, said, “Positive interactions between people and dogs tend to increase the feel-good hormone, oxytocin, and reduce the stress hormone, cortisol.”

She edited the book published by the Purdue University Press. The book is titled: “The Canine-Campus Connection: Roles for Dogs in the Lives of College Students”. In the book, readers will remove find various topics regarding the different assistance animal types, ethical issues of the presence of therapy dogs on campuses, and how to maintain a safe interaction with animals.
